CBT Therapist & Mental Health Nurse

BABCP Accredited CBT THERAPIST

Expert psychological support for young people and adults navigating  a time of distress

My approach is compassionate, collaborative and tailored to you. I aim to create a safe, non-judgemental space where you feel heard and understood, and where we can work together to make sense of your experiences.

I have eight years experience working in the NHS with clients ranging from 13 - 65  years old living with a severe mental illness. I enjoyed over four years working in a specialist psychosis service. I currently work in East London with young people under 18 navigating the criminal justice system and facing mental health difficulties. I hold an enhanced DBS.

I have particular experience working with adults and young people experiencing complex mental health difficulties. I adapt my approach to meet each client, including for those who are neurodivergent. I am always learning how to support individual needs and welcome direction on any adaptations required.

At the heart of my work is a focus on reducing shame, building understanding and helping you make meaningful, lasting changes at your own pace.

Everyone is unique and I know starting therapy can feel daunting. Acknowledging you may need support can bring up a lot of different feelings.  I welcome any questions you have. Please get in touch and we can discuss if me, and CBT, are the right fit for you right now.

Testimonials

Real Stories, Real Change

After 6 months of CBT,  I am doing things I would have previously never tried in fear of being too embarrassed. I don't overthink as much anymore. Joanna and the therapy has helped me gain confidence and  I have shown myself I am capable.

DA, 32 years old

My whole life I’ve felt unheard, and that became even harder during a psychotic episode, where you don’t know what’s real and not. Joanna showed me how to step back and look at a situation in a different way. The behavioural experiments helped the most, and I reached a major milestones, like going to a wedding, which I never thought I would.

HD, 19 years old

At the end of our CBT, I know what exercises to refer to in order to remain calm after feeling so stressed. I appreciate the time it’s taken to reach this point.  I must extend that gratitude to Joanna. I found her to be a trustworthy and calming presence throughout our sessions which wasn’t always easy.
